We have been treated to live-streamed festivals, online serenades and celebrity isolation singalongs, but nothing compares to Queen and Adam Lambert’s ‘You Are The Champions’.

The band has reworked its 1977 hit ‘We Are The Champions’ to honour frontline healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The triumphant anthem has been a crowd favourite for over 40 years, performed all over the world to new and old fans who can’t help but sing along.

Respecting social distancing laws, band members Brian May and Roger Taylor recorded the song with Adam Lambert in a virtual session. The original lyrics began the pop-up concert, with Lambert making the adaptation at the halfway mark. The song has now been released properly thanks to fan support, and the proceeds will be donated to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization (WHO).

Taylor explained: “As a father with a daughter in the front line, I am ultra-aware of the vital work they are doing daily to save us and our society, their bravery and sacrifice must not be prejudiced by anything less than a one hundred percent effort by our governments to protect them. They are precious to us all and they are truly our champions.”

May added: “Just like we sent our young men and women into two world wars to fight, these young men and women are now fighting for us and risking their lives every day. That’s what this song has become about. It’s for everyone who is out there working and putting their life at risk.”

The music video features various regions of the world, frontline healthcare workers, those behind the scenes, and of course the trio jamming form their homes. Queen has truly captured the essence of coming together during this difficult time and we can’t wait to see them back on stage.
