Lindsey Stirling is an American violinist, dancer and songwriter who mixes classical styles with pop, rock and EDM. In 2010, Lindsey was a quarter-finalist on season five of America’s Got Talent impressing the judges with her unique fusion of cross-genre violin playing and dancing. After the show, Lindsey began to regularly upload performances to her YouTube channel where she began to grow a following.

She has since amassed over 12.5 million subscribers with her most popular upload being the 2014 music video for ‘Roundtable Rival’ which has gained over 258 million views. During her peak on YouTube she collaborated with other musicians and singers like Amy Lee from Evanescence, Peter Hollens, Pentatonix and John Legend.

She debuted her first self-titled studio album in 2012 and then released her second studio album ‘Shatter Me’ in 2014 all while exciting fans on world tours in between. In 2015, she was featured on Forbes’ esteemed ’30 Under 30’ alongside Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Chance the Rapper. She won her first Billboard Music Award in the same year for Top Dance/Electronic Album. Her latest album ‘Artemis’ was released in September 2019.

Not only is Lindsey known for her talent as a musician, she has also been known to give back to those in need. In 2013 she teamed up with the Atlanta Music Project to help spread appreciation of music to children who might not have the chance to perform and learn. She also joined Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas for World Water Day in 2014 and encouraged her VIP guests on tour to bring a toy to donate for Toys for Tots.

Lindsey uses a variety of violins for different performances and what you probably didn’t know was that she has unique names for each instrument. ‘Steampunk’ is her first electric violin, ‘Cleopatra’ has a gem-encrusted body and ‘Pickles’ is a children’s violin used in interludes – just to name a few.

Our favourite songs:

Teaming up with a cappella group Pentatonix, Lindsey performs a cover of the Imagine Dragons song ‘Radioactive’. Set in a sandy wasteland, the mix of the violin and acappella vocals is so impressive it’s no surprise this song has over 186 million views on YouTube.

‘Crystallize’ is an original song by Lindsey Stirling and the ultimate example of two genres mashing up. Lindsey shows us how classical violin can beautifully and harmoniously melt into a dubstep track.

Lindsey shows off her ability to dance and play at the same time in the fantasy inspired music video for ‘Artemis’. She really knows how to take fans on a journey, this is an epic song full of many peaking moments. In March, to celebrate their Artemis Program, NASA released a video of her performing this song at the Kennedy Space Center.
