Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has been voted Australia’s favourite concert tour of all time in a poll of 5,000 of our fans, who nominated more than 600 concerts and tours stretching back seven decades to The Beatles’ first world tour.
The Rocketman’s mammoth 2019/20 farewell tour garnered 416 votes, just four more than second-placed FIRE FIGHT AUSTRALIA. February’s historic bushfire relief stadium concert included Queen + Adam Lambert, whose own The Rhapsody Tour 2020 came 5th with 188 votes.
Top of the live shows by antipodean artists and in 9th place overall was Keith Urban’s Graffiti U Tour in 2019, which was also the year with the most nominated concerts, attracting 23% of all votes. Despite government restrictions on gatherings in place since March due to COVID-19, 2020 punched well above its weight as the second most popular year with some 16% of the votes.
The oldest concert tour nominated by you was The Beatles’ first World Tour in 1964, when the Fab Four played Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to screaming fans at the height of Beatlemania. It was chosen by eight fans, putting it in 65th place.
