Steph Tisdell is one of our Insider favourites largely thanks to both her warmth and incredible wit. She is selling out shows across the country, becoming a regular guest on mainstream TV programs, and is featuring as part of the Comedy S.O.S. online series. We caught up with Steph to find out how she got started, what she’s been up to in iso, and what we can expect from “Identity Steft”.

How did you first get into comedy and how did you first realise you were ‘funny’?

In short, I started comedy because I was dared to! I first realised I was funny when at my first gig the MC told me that “if that’s your first time, everyone else should give up.”

What was your first ever live show like?

Drunk. I used to have to drink the build the courage to perform. However, I don’t drink at all these days and can’t think of anything worse than performing drunk!

Have you found yourself doing any bizarre activities during lockdown?

I sleep on my outside couch most nights. That’s pretty bizarre. I’ve also become obsessed with watching tattoo shows!

What are you most looking forward to about performing live again?

The adrenaline rush and the anticipation just before stepping on stage. More than that even, I’m looking forward to making people happy, and working with their energy to make them laugh.

Have there been any positives to come out of this period for you or the industry?

Upon reflection, I can see that this period has been more positive than anything else. It has forced me to find hobbies, to explore different avenues of my career and to slow down and focus on my health and happiness.

What can we expect to see from your show Identity Steft?

As much as I hate this word, you can expect ‘edgy’ comedy that makes you think while you laugh. This is not a soft show, I edge on the difficult things and I invite you to with me. Change isn’t comfortable, and neither is confrontation. Comedy is the best I can do to cushion the blow, but the blow is important so I’m not cushioning it all.

If you have a question of your own for Steph Tisdell, make sure you tune in to Identity Steft, this Saturday, September 12th as she will be live, answering all your questions at the end of the show.
