If you were a certain age in 1999, chances are that the kiss between Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair in the film Cruel Intentions was … kind of a big deal.

Director Robert Kumble’s sassy, sexy update on the 1782 Choderlos de Laclos novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons), which translated the action to wealthy teenagers in New York, was a cult hit that spawned a sequel and a prequel … and a jukebox musical of ’90s bangers is now playing in Melbourne (including a national tour to Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra) for a strictly limited season.

Laced with back-to-back hits including Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve), Every You and Every Me (Placebo), Bye Bye Bye (*NSYNC), Sometimes (Britney Spears), Just A Girl (No Doubt), Foolish Games (Jewel), Genie In A Bottle (Christina Aguilera), Candy (Mandy Moore), Breakfast At Tiffany’s (Deep Blue Something), Kiss Me (Sixpence None the Richer), Iris (The Goo Goo Dolls), I’ll Make Love To You (Boyz II Men), and more.

Penned by the writer and director of the original film Roger Kumble, along with Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin, Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical received rave reviews from Hollywood royalty and original film cast members Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Selma Blair and Ryan Phillippe during its USA and UK tours.

This is the ultimate throwback experience. Since opening, the show has received 5 star reviews and incredible audience responses.

Producer David Venn is thrilled to bring this exciting new show to Australian audiences.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with positive responses to the Australian Premiere of this new musical. Audiences are having the time of their lives and singing and dancing in the aisles. It’s taking a typical experience at the theatre to a whole new level.” says David.

“Whether you’re a die hard fan of the movie or just love ’90s music, there is so much to love about this electric, high energy show.”

The all-Australian cast features triple threat stars including Kirby Burgess (Dirty Dancing, The Wedding Singer, Bring It On: The Musical), Drew Weston (Grease, Mary Poppins) and Euan Fistrovic Doidge (Les Misérables and Saturday Night Fever).
