Health, fitness, and nutrition. What comes to mind when you hear those words? For many, it is a source of great confusion, effort, and far too often- failure. It can be so difficult to wade through the masses of information and quick fixes out there and finding a sustainable balance may seem impossible. In the Lunch & Learn session with Libby Babet, a healthy lifestyle is being brought back to basics, to make it easier (and more enjoyable) for you to look after yourself and succeed at doing it.

Libby is one who has had to fight hard to keep her health and fitness in check. Diagnosed with malignant hypertension in her early 20s, Libby was told she’d be on medication for the rest of her life, would find it hard to have children of her own, and would likely have further complications to come. Fast forward to today, and through her own journey healing herself with exercise and nutrition, Libby is now the founder of multiple businesses (including Bondi training studio ‘The Upbeat’), is mum to a busy and energetic toddler, and above all, is an advocate for a healthy lifestyle that actually works.

Q: How is your life different now that you’ve made these changes?

A: Healing myself through the right kinds exercise and nutrition, and getting off medication was the start of a life-long mission to inspire others to move more, eat better and live life to the full – but in the process, I’ve also created a really fun, active and meaningful life for myself that I love, so it’s changed life in a big way!

A decade on from making that decision to walk out on my corporate life and serve others, I’m so emotionally and creatively inspired by my communities every day! I’ve had the chance to do some pretty cool things, like doing a season of Channel 10’s “The Biggest Loser: Transformed”, I’ve learned the ins and outs of business after running a number of fitness businesses, I’ve written a book – and I’m still thinking about how else I can support more people to just feel even a little bit better! I never tire of the chase, it’s hard work but doesn’t feel like the slog working in a job that didn’t mean much to me did!

Q: Why do you feel it is important to share your philosophy/program with the community?

A: I believe I was put on this planet to help people be happy, feel good about themselves and live life to the full. Fitness and nutrition have proven to be the most impactful way for me, personally, to do that. I’m all about making nutrition simple and easy to understand, and making fitness fun, exciting and interesting. For me, it’s not about chasing the perfect body, counting calories or obsessing about exercise to reach a goal. It’s about learning what the right choices for you are and why. It’s about being consistent (most of the time!) and resting when you need to. It’s about eating well and exercising because it makes you feel happy, strong and alive.
