Supercars teams are revved up and ready for the first night race of 2020 this weekend, the Truck Assist Sydney SuperSprint. After having successfully hosted Supercars return to racing last month following a 15-week layoff due to COVID-19, the famous Eastern Creek facility will again host Australia and New Zealand’s best drivers, this time under lights and in front of a limited number of fans.

With plenty of bumper to bumper action, drivers will be keen to make their mark in Round 4 with new tyre rules set to spice up every team’s pit lane strategy. Sydney Motorsport Park hosted the first night event of the modern era in 2018, with the on-track action under lights proving a hit for fans in the grandstand and watching at home.

Works began in early May to erect the circuit’s first permanent light tower, which is now due to be used twice in 2020, this weekend and again for the Supercars’ season finale in December.

The track schedule has been announced with an action-packed two-day line-up, including 17 sessions on show across the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, featuring a mix of daylight and night-time racing.

For the main game, the format remains the same as that used for the successful first round back last month, headlined by three 32-lap sprint races.

The three-part Saturday qualifying, including a Top 15 Shootout, will also return.

The combined Dunlop Super2 and Super3 fields will have two 40-minute practice sessions to get up to speed.

They will then have a qualifying session and 18-lap race on each day – the official resumption of the Dunlop Super2 Series after a five-month break.

The Saturday Super2/Super3 race will be run at twilight starting from 5:05pm, leading into the first Supercars night race of 2020 from 6:25pm.

Scott McLaughlin leads the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship by 49 points over Jamie Whincup. If McLaughlin wins two of the weekends’ races, he will equal Peter Brock’s record of most race wins. If he takes out all three races he will become the record holder.

Only limited Grandstand seats are still available for Sunday through Ticketek. However, fans who miss out can still tune in to all the action from home – Fox Sports will be broadcasting every session live and ad-free, Kayo Sports will be live streaming, and Network Ten will be airing race highlights on Saturday and Sunday.
