This is a difficult time for all Australians, and people working in the live entertainment industry are among the many feeling the pinch, with concerts, performances and sporting events cancelled or postponed. There is no clear end date in sight yet, but if you have the capacity there are plenty of ways you can show your support through this tough time:

1. Interact with your favourite stars on social media.

A free way to show your love and support for your favourite artist or team is through social media, whether it’s a heartfelt message, a post sharing your favourite clip of them, a positive comment on a thread or just a simple like.

2. Buy Merchandise

Whether it’s a new club jersey or a band tee, buying merch is a classic way to show your appreciation of your favourite acts and sporting teams. If you do get your hands on some cool merch, why not share it on social media and encourage your friends to do the same.

3. Buy tickets to upcoming events

Many events are now being rescheduled and tickets for future events are still on sale. If you are in a position to grab some tickets give yourself the gift of something to look forward to. You can even reach out to your wider friend group and get them involved too. We’re all going to need some live entertainment after this thing passes, right?

4. Donate to a charity supporting live entertainment workers

The music industry has historically banded together to donate time and money to those in need, as seen recently with the spectacular bushfire relief concert FIRE FIGHT AUSTRALIA, organised by TEG Dainty and TEG Live.

Now the entire Australian live music industry has come together to create the Sound of Silence (SOS) appeal. It includes an option to donate the charity Support Act which provides crisis relief services to artists, roadies and music workers directly affected by the current restrictions on live gatherings. There are other options, include custom tees.

5. Stream and buy music

Keep streaming and buying Australian music and merchandise – directly from artist websites, through local record stores (online)BandcampPatreon or of course via your favourite streaming services – Spotify and Apple Music.
