With Esther Hannaford – Star of ‘Beautiful: The Carole king musical’
After playing a sold-out, 20-date tour to celebrate 50 years of Carole King’s landmark album Tapestry, this December ESTHER HANNAFORD will return to the stage to complete previously postponed (due to Covid) dates in Melbourne, Brisbane and at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, plus two new shows.
Esther and her all-star band have added dates at Geelong’s Costa Hall on December 12 and Sydney Coliseum Theatre on December 18.
Opening all shows will be special guest Davey Lane (You Am I) with songs from Laurel Canyon, a once famous enclave of musicians in the Hollywood Hills during the 1960s and early 1970s, often renowned to the birthplace of much of the America’s popular music including Tapestry.
Tickets for the new Sydney shows will go on sale Friday, October 29, at 9am.
Released on February 10, 1971, Tapestry immediately hit #1 on the Billboard chart and remained there for 15 consecutive weeks.
Home to timeless classics such as ‘I Feel the Earth Move’, ‘So Far Away’, ‘You’ve Got a Friend’, ‘It’s Too Late’, ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’, ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’, the album resided on the Billboard charts for a staggering five years and became one of the biggest selling female albums of all time with more than 25 million copies sold.
The 50th anniversary tour will present Tapestry complete from start to finish as well as a selection of Carole King hits and songs she wrote for fellow multi-platinum selling artists.
Accompanying Esther will be some of Australia’s finest contemporary musicians including musical director and Jet bassist Mark Wilson, young guitarist on the rise Sorcha Albuquerque, keyboardists Clio Renner and Louis Macklin, and drummer Pete Marin.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, telling the story of Carole King’s life, began its Tony Award winning six-year run on Broadway in 2014 before debuting at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in 2017. Performing seasons in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Beautiful received standing ovations and sold in excess of 500,000 tickets.
The Australian productionstarred Esther Hannaford as Carole King, for which Esther received rapturous reviews and clinched her second prestigious Helpmann Award – Best Female Actor in a Musical.
