Sunday, April 30 is a date on the mind of the Liberty A-League clubs eyeing silverware this season. It is the date of the 2022-23 Grand Final.

CommBank Stadium in Sydney will host the showpiece decider, with a record crowd anticipated as the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup looms large.

But before then, there is so much to play for in one of the most exciting Liberty A-League campaigns to date, with the regular season to conclude by April 2.

There will be a Semi-Final on Saturday, April 15 followed by an Elimination Final on Sunday, April 16. On Saturday, April 22 the Preliminary Final will determine the Grand Finalists.

Can the new team on the block – Western United win the Championship in their first ever season in the competition? Mark Torcaso’s side have defied expectations and the odds to establish themselves as a genuine force, while they are in the mix to sweep the Premiership and Championship double thanks to the boot of American import Hannah Keane.

For Sydney FC, the star-studded Sky Blues – boasting Matildas star Cortnee Vine, Princess Ibini, Jada Whyman and Mackenzie Hawkesby, have won back-to-back Premierships. However, they have fallen short in consecutive Grand Finals against their rivals Melbourne Victory. Sydney, though, are again viewed as the favourite to reign supreme in Western Sydney at the end of April.

Melbourne City have some of Australia’s most talented players at their disposal. Just look at returning Matilda Holly McNamara, Rhianna Pollicina, prodigy Daniela Galic and Chile international Maria Jose Rojas. The four-time champions are always in the mix for silverware and this season is no different.

Are we about to witness a three-peat? Melbourne Victory have proved to be the finals specialists in the past two seasons, performing when it matters most. Led by a serial winner in Jeff Hopkins, an inspiring goalkeeper in Casey Dumont and captain Kayla Morrison, doctor-to-be Beattie Goad and sharp-shooter Melina Ayres, the defending champions are once again peaking at the right stage of the campaign.
