There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the government’s COVIDsafe app. Released by the federal government, the app is a key initiative to help slow the spread of COVID-19, with the government’s goal to have 40% of Australians download it.

The app identifies people that have been in close contact of COVID-19 cases, allowing health officials to quickly contact people at risk. The more of us that have the app, the more effective the app becomes.

The Live Entertainment industry is getting right behind the app with the launch of the LetUsPlay initiative. Initiated by business leaders right across the industry, the message is delivered in the campaign tagline, “The sooner it’s safe, the sooner we can come out and play”.

The industry has been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic, impacting the livelihood of not only artists and sports stars, but a huge cross section of everyday Australians that rely on the industry to support their families. This includes event staff, roadies, cleaners, caterers, transport workers, office staff and many, many more.

The app is one initiative that will help create a safer environment sooner and increase the chances of getting these people back to work more quickly. And for us all to start enjoying the live entertainment that we love.

According to Jack Rush QC, one of the volunteer committee members, there is no need to be concerned when it comes to privacy.

“In my work as a lawyer privacy is critical. The COVIDSafe App is on my phone for two reasons. The ability to contact people who have been close to me if I or them contract the virus is vital for my well-being, their wellbeing and preventing community spread.

The encrypted information on my phone can only be used to contact people I have recently been close to who are at risk; it can only be used by the Health Authorities with my permission and most importantly it is all regulated by some of the strictest and toughest legislation to protect privacy I have seen. Let Us Play,” said Mr. Rush

The LetUsPlay campaign will continue throughout May and see many artists, performers and sports stars take to their social channels in support of the COVIDsafe app and the campaign.

So, if like us, you’re desperately missing live entertainment and looking for a safe, fast return to live events, you can support the campaign and download the app.
