Isolation has sparked creativity in all of us, from drawing, baking, building or learning a new skill. During quarantine, artists have been producing music left, right and centre, and we are loving the meaning behind the songs.

Charli XCX

British pop queen Charlie XCX has not only recorded a song, but an entire album called How I’m Feeling Now. The album has created a special bond with fans, using their feedback to contribute to songs and videos. Charli has poured her lockdown feelings into the lyrics, craving human interaction, touch and emotion. If this girl can produce an entire album during a pandemic, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for her next.

Hilltop Hoods

The HILLTOP HOODS have also been busy in isolation, recently releasing their lockdown single ‘I’m Good?’ The band decided to take a break from working on their new album and put their time and energy into helping road and support crews. The bands, record label and publisher royalties from streams and downloads of the new single will go directly to Support Act “Roadies (Crew) Fund”.

Alice Cooper

Heavy metal legend Alice Cooper has released a new song and music video ‘Don’t Give Up.’ Addressing the uncertainty of this stressful time, Cooper’s message offers encouragement whilst urging us to stand together. Video producer Bob Ezrin has incorporated over 20,000 fan videos to create the final piece, reiterating the message of ‘Don’t Give Up.’

City and Colour

City and Colour have remixed their track ‘Song of Unrest’ to accurately represent the feels of isolation. The vibey remix dropped on May 1st, with all proceeds from the first 24 hours shared between Food Banks Canada and Feeding America. We love seeing artists use their platform to help those during this time of need and hope it continues post iso.

Lauv

Lauv dropped a demo of his new track ‘Miss Me’ on Instagram with a home-made video featuring bathroom jams, his dog and friends. Lauv has used his Instagram account to embrace the quarantine creativity and uncertain emotions that come along with being isolated. The vulnerability of artists such as Lauv has allowed fans to connect and relate to musicians on a deeper level during this time.
