December 4 is ‘MMAD Day’, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the work of charity Musicians Making A Difference and supporting them in reaching more young people through the power of music. This MMAD Day, people are encouraged to join the cause by sharing a song that has helped you get through 2020; the music you choose to share could inspire someone else out there!
In a bid to create a wave of digital positivity, MMAD have also created a 2020 campaign anthem called “I’m On A Wave”, in the lead up to MMAD Day. This year’s track and clip were inspired by the personal stories of ten incredible young people taking part in a mentorship program with MMAD Australia and Universal Music Australia.
Listen to “I’m On a Wave” now!
Every year, Australian & International artists band together in support of MMAD, including some of the biggest names in the world, such as Niall Horan, Troye Sivan, Dean Lewis, Vera Blue, Yungblud, Daniel Johns, Alice in Wonderland, Tove Lo, Ryan Tedder from One Republic, Alessia Cara, Conrad Sewell, Julia Michaels, Michael Franti, Pez, Tina Arena & more!
This year, ARIA-nominated Alice Ivy gifted a beat for the young people to write to, illustrator and graphic designer Joe ‘Neathway’ Brown developed the accompanying clip, singer/songwriter and The Voice finalist Zeek Power tracked vocals from interstate during COVID-19 with multiple artists jumping in to support the young people as they began the creative process of writing the lyrics.
Here is what the young people had to say about the song and this once in a lifetime opportunity to make their own difference in the world:
“This song is about dealing with depression, finding your positive energy and breaking free. Being part of creating MMAD Day this year has been such an empowering and inspiriting experience and we couldn’t be more grateful for everybody. In a way, this song is speaking about MMAD.”
Tune into the MMAD socials and stay up to date with how you make your difference on MMAD Day, December 4.
