We caught up with one of our most loved and most historic West Coast venues, The Regal Theatre to relive their most memorable moments, the unforgettable times and find out what the future of live theatre now looks like post-COVID-19.

Tell us a little about The Regal Theare

The Regal Theatre is an Art Deco live performance venue catering to audiences of up to 1055 people. This Subiaco institution has been a centre point for popular entertainment for the past 82 years. Our beautiful heritage-listed building is delighted to host a diversity of performances to satisfy our diverse community.

Where can we find you?
In the heart of Subiaco, corner of Rokeby Road and Hay St in Perth Western Australia.

What is one of the most memorable performances at The Regal Theatre?

What a tricky question, so many beautiful moments to choose from! I think one of the more surreal moments is having the whole theatre transformed into a massive snow dome during Slava’s Snow Show. This unique poetic performance is an absolute joy for both young and old.

What is a moment you will never forget?
Having Paul McCartney choose to use the Regal Theatre as a rehearsal space for over a week whilst preparing for his Australian and New Zealand stadium tour in 2017 was something our ears will never forget. Some pretty impressive names have walked the boards at the theatre however having one of the most successful performers of all time spend so much time in our venue was an absolute treat.

What tips can you give us for any one attending a show at The Regale Theatre?

Have your tickets ready! We are a customer service oriented theatre that uses people, not scanners, to help the audience find their seats, which means it makes our job so much easier when our patrons have their tickets ready to go.

Our second hot tip is that our Attic Bar is located on the lounge level. Here you can order your interval drinks before the performance to skip the queue during the intermission.

What does the future post COVID-19 look like?

COVID-19 has hit our industry hard, but we have been making the most of this closed time by giving the theatre a good sprucing and with staff yoga, boot camp and dark dance parties on our stage! Although it may be a while before our normal programming returns, we are looking forward to doing our best to support local acts and hope to provide a platform for aspiring performers and local talent to shine.
