Sporting fans rejoice! We are zeroing in on getting crowds back into venues as of July. Australians will be free to attend outdoor events with up to 10,000 spectators as of next month. Whilst each state will be bound by their own health protocols and legislation, this is a great first step to bringing back fans, live entertainment and Sporting jobs.

Stay tuned for our weekly Sports forum with team here at Ticketek dedicated to getting YOU the FANS informed on all ticketing related announcements. For the time being, we have the Sports weekend wash up for your enjoyment!

The Sports Wrap – The weekend that was

An action-packed Sporting weekend saw the NRL and AFL back in full swing, Supercars unveiled their plans to greet the chequered flag again this coming weekend, restart plans well underway for A-League and Super Rugby, with Suncorp Super Netball and NBL seasons also on the horizon.

If Sport were a dining experience, there’s certainly plenty on the menu!

Winners and Losers

Round 3 threw up a magnitude of storylines, with Hawthorn humbling Richmond on Thursday night in a huge form reversal for the Hawks. The Hawks looked slick with the ball in hand and showed that with Jaeger O’Meara in the engine room and Isaac Smith roaming around the MCG wings, Alastair Clarkson’s men will be a tough proposition once again in season 2020.

The Western Bulldogs and GWS renewed their fiery rivalry with the Dogs able to get their mojo back and kick away for the 4 points late in the piece. With each club facing each other only once this year in the regular home and away season, we can only hope these two teams meet again come finals time to write the next chapter in what is fast becoming a must watch encounter.

Collingwood confirmed their status as flag favourites with another impressive showing against up and comers St Kilda. The Pies called on all their experience and season bodies with stand-out performances by Steele Sidebottom and captain Scott Pendlebury to topple the Saints at the home of football.

The surprise packet of 2020, the Gold Coast Suns have once again demonstrated they are ready to take on all challengers up at Metricon Stadium, lead by young gun Matt Rowell who amassed 20 disposals and kick two goals on his non-dominant side – not bad for his 3rd game of league footy! One thing is for sure, the Gold Coast Suns are a must watch proposition. Fremantle await next Saturday night at Metricon!

Round 3 wasn’t without controversy with the Essendon and Melbourne fixture postponed due to a confirmed COVID-19 case with more details set to come to hand on how Essendon will proceed over the coming weeks.

NRL – Weekend Wrap

Winners and Losers

Coming into round 6, the Eels were chasing their first 6-0 start to a season in 73 years. This wasn’t to be the case as the back to back premiers showcased their class with a 24-10 win in what was a brutal clash of two gritty teams.

The Sea Eagles who were already without prop Martin Taupau, centre Moses Suli and winger Jorge Taufua for their clash with the Raiders, added Dylan Walker and Brad Parker to the sidelined mix within minutes of the kick-off. Sea Eagles star fullback, Tom Trbojevic, also found himself limping from the field early in the second half, after clutching at his left hamstring. Tom Trbojevic’s early inspiration of a try and try assist was enough to allow his team to hang on for a gutsy win over Canberra 14-6.

The Beanie for Brain Cancer Round deserves a special mention as a huge achievement for not only the Mark Hughes Foundation, but the entire rugby league community. COVID-19’s restriction on crowds would not stop fans rallying behind the cause, with a total of $2.55million being raised for the Mark Hughes Foundation in 2020’s Beanie for Brain Cancer round.
