Lee Kernaghan’s “Boys from the Bush” is an Aussie anthem, released in 1992 the track has stood the test of time. We all know the words, and at one time or another, we have been members of “The Outback Club”.
In 1994, LK teamed up with Supercars, or as it was known then, V8 Supercars to re-record his iconic hit with a little motor racing twist. The song became the season’s anthem and was played into the broadcast of each race.
LK re-wrote the lyrics of “BFTB” especially for the V8’s and to be honest I still sing at the top of my lungs “We curse the rain and we curse the sand” even during the original version. We took the time to copy out the lyrics from the track because they are just that awesome:
We’ve been running strong from the East to the West
Been Banging fenders / to give you all the best
Been setting records in every state/
Yeah there ain’t no car like a big V8
To the Boys From the Bush / Were back in town
Well The cars in the back and the shutters down
We’re all headed for the Bathurst hill
To see Brocky and the Boys serving up a thrill
Been feeling the heat / you can hear em cuss
Been kissing fences / and choking on dust
We curse the rain and we curse the sand
We’re running hot turn it on for the fans
To the Boys from the Bush / We’re back in town
Green flag drops and the foot goes down
We’re all members of the horsepower set
And the King of the Mountain is the guy you wanna get
We work our cars from go to woah
It’s the greatest race / it’s the ultimate show
To the Boys from the Bush / We’re back in town
The cars in the back and the shutters down
We’re all here with the Bathurst Boys
And you can’t hear Richo above the noise
Yeah to the Boys from the Bush / We’re back in town
With the big guns roaring shaking the ground
Steer em straight and stay off the wall
Get the checkered flag and your walking tall
Get the checkered flag and your walking tall
Whether you were #TeamFORD or #TeamHOLDEN this song had you singing along, and it is definitely a classic which ever version is your personal favourite!
But knowing one “Countrified” Supercars song from the king isn’t enough, so in 2011 LK teamed up with the Supercars again to release a supercharged version of “Beautiful Noise” for our favourite Aussie motor racing past time.
The track even features Aussie racing legend “Craig Lowndes” – who we love a little more now that he has gone back to Holden #TeamHOLDEN.
Who knows what the future will bring, hopefully we can expect another supercharged single from one of the best in the business, but for now we just going to put these on repeat!
