The 2020 MTV VMA Awards are going ahead on Sunday 30 August in Brooklyn despite the pandemic. Embracing the chaos of the music industry two fitting categories have been added: ‘Best Music Video From Home’ and ‘Best Quarantine Performance.’ These awards will acknowledge the artists who have embraced change and adapted to online resources to produce music.

Blink 182’s ‘Happy Days’ music video is the perfect example.

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga have both received nine nominations, with seven for their 2020 collaboration of ‘Rain On Me.’

Yet again, newcomer Billie Eilish is slaying the nominations, becoming the first teen to be nominated for two Video Of The Year awards. Last year ‘Bad Guy’ was nominated for the award. Will ‘Everything I Wanted’ take the crown in 2020?

Taylor Swift’s music clip for ‘The Man’ has also been nominated for Video Of The Year off the back of her 2019 win for ‘You Need To Calm Down.’ Taylor Swift is the first artist since Katy Perry in 2011 and 2012 to back up a win with a nomination the following year. Will T Swift take the win two years in a row, or will newcomer Billie Eilish get the votes?

Eminem is another big-name artist to be nominated for Video Of The Year for his collaboration with Juice WRLD on ‘Godzilla.’ We definitely cannot forget ‘Blinding Lights’ by The Weeknd after this tune took off on TikTok earlier in the year.

Heartstopper Justin Bieber has been nominated for Artist Of The Year alongside Lady Gaga, Post Malone and The Weeknd. We can’t wait to see who takes the top spot in this category with such a fun array of nominees.
